Busch Stadium
Busch Stadium has been
the home of the St. Louis Cardinals since 1966, and has gone
through renovations in recent years in order to keep it more
modern. In 1997, a project was created to install a hand-operated
scoreboard flanked by flag decks commemorating the club's World
Series championships and retired numbers. The previous year,
the field at Busch Stadium returned to a natural-grass playing
surface, which replaced the artificial turf that had been in
place since 1970; Also occurring that year was the opening
of the Family Pavilion, featuring a variety of games and attractions
for families and children, and Homer's Landing, a picnic area
located above the bullpen in left-center field and the return
of a more traditional "ballpark green" color
scheme for the outfield fence and stadium trim.
Previously, in 1993,
the ballpark also installed a new speaker system
and a new video display screen in the outfield. The top of the
stadium to the field is approximately 130 feet high, and the
diameter of the seats surrounding the field is more than 800
feet. The entire structure covers over 12 acres and the playing
field sits 10 to 30 feet below street level.
