Comerica Park
In the summer of 2000, the city of Detroit unveiled
Comerica Park to their fans. Comerica Park has become
the home of the American League Central’s Detroit Tigers,
and it’s
nothing like the old Tiger Stadium. Tiger Stadium
might have been best known for it’s towering upper deck
structures, but Comerica Park has no upper deck seating, so the
fan has an unobstructed view of the field and the
downtown skyline. The entire process cost around
$300 million, but more than half of that money came from private
sources, easing the burden of the tax payer.
The sight lines
of the fan were the biggest priority in building
Comerica Park. The scoreboard, consisting of a video screen,
a black and white matrix board and a color matrix board, is larger
than any facility in existence. In the middle of the food court,
there is a ferris wheel and a merry-go-round with tigers instead
of horses. Tickets to the “Tiger Den,” the
best seats in the house, go for $60 a ticket, and
tickets down the left and right field lines cost
$25 each. Tickets can also be bought for the outfield bleachers
or the skyline for under $10.
