Network Associates Coliseum
Network Associates Coliseum, located in Oakland, California,
is one of the few baseball stadiums that also serves as home
to another professional team, in this case, the Oakland Raiders
of the National Football League. It also is the home of the Oakland
Athletics of Major League Baseball, and was a big part of the
reason the Kansas City Athletics eventually made the move west.
Network Associates Coliseum was built in 1966 and was built for
only $25.5 million dollars. The stadium was quite bland and was
therefore renovated at the conclusion of the 1995 season.
The
first few games of the 1996 season actually had
to be played in Las Vegas because the construction workers were
still removing seats in the outfield so there would be space
for 125 luxury suites and two new color video boards. Even with
all the work done to the ballpark, there is still adequate parking
in many lots, and a deal with the transit station (B.A.R.T.)
can get you the best public transportation has to offer for a
low price, even from areas as far out as San Francisco. Tickets
are still quite inexpensive, ranging anywhere from $34 for a
field level seat to $9 for plaza level.
