Safeco Field

The Seattle Mariner's Safeco Field has been updated recently in a few ways.  In 2007, a Safeco Field sign composed of lights was added on the east side of its roof in order to identify it on the highways from the rest of beautiful downtown Seattle, Washington.  In addition, there are several cheap routes of transit to get to the game, sponsored by the Mariners including a bus shuttle service before and after games as well as Sound Transit's Central Link light rail system, which is planned to begin service to the stadium area in 2009.  Not to mention, tickets are as big a bargain as the transportation.

Safeco Field is located at P.O. Box 4100 in Seattle, Washington, and plays host to the Seattle Mariners of the American League West. The site itself covers almost 20 acres of land and the ballpark square footage is almost 1,200,000. It's a clean grass surface, very different from the turf in the old Kingdome. The inaugural game took place July 15, 1999, the first game after the all-star break of that season. The field itself is asymmetrical, skewed slightly in the direction of left center field. 600,000 bricks make up the facade of the stadium, and the stadium is lit up with the help of more than 300,000 volts of electricity.

The field also was built with 200 miles of concrete, 150 miles of electrical wiring, and 40 miles of piping. The roof is retractable and covers nearly 9 acres. It weighs almost 22 million pounds and is comprised of enough steel to build a skyscraper 55 stories tall. The roof can open or close in 10-20 minutes, depending on weather conditions. It can also withstand 6-7 inches of snow and winds of up to 70 miles per hour, a necessity in the great northwest area.
