Tropicana Field
With recent renovations in 2008, Tropicana Field seats over 36,000 ticket holders comfortably. Normally available for group parties, a section of the press boxes were set aside by the Tampa Bay Rays as an all-you-can-eat section with normal ballpark ticket pricing. In addition, there are left and right field all-you-can-eat party sections, and two premium seating clubs including the Home Plate Club, which features recliner seats with in-seat service and a premium buffet.
Tropicana Field, the home of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, is located at One Tropicana Drive in St. Petersburg, Florida. The stadium is approximately 1.1 million square feet, and seats behind the backstop are as close as 50 feet from the actual plate. Tropicana Field also features the world's second-largest cable-supported domed roof behind only the Georgia Dome. It's made of six acres of translucent, Teflon-coated fiberglass and it virtually supports itself with 180 miles of cables connected by struts. Opposing forces of tension and compression keep the roof in an arc. Tropicana Field's roof is slanted at a 6.5-degree angle, dropping from 225 feet above second base to 85 feet at the center field wall, although it still comes into play in certain situations.
The slanted roof reduced the overall construction costs and decreased the volume of air under the dome by 16.8 million cubic feet. Accordingly, that reduced the amount of air that requires climate control treatment. It is built to withstand wind of up to 115 miles per hour. Tropicana Field has also played host to Arena Football, the NCAA basketball tournament, NBA preseason games, Davis Cup tennis, and assorted concerts in the past.
